Callum Fysh caught drink-driving in West Rudham after a day at Wells Beach

A trip to the beach with his girlfriend ended in disaster for a 27-year-old when he was caught drink-driving.

Callum Fysh, of Foxglove Walk in St Germans, appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, where he pleaded guilty to the offence.

The court heard that on May 27, Fysh was driving his Volkswagen Golf along the A148 at West Rudham when he was pulled over by the police due to his excessive speed.

He subsequently provided a positive roadside breath test and was arrested. While in custody, he provided an evidential reading of 42mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.

The legal limit to drive is 35mcg.

Magistrates disqualified Fysh from driving for 12 months. They offered him a drink-driving rehabilitation course which, if completed by February 10 next year, will reduce that term by 13 weeks.

Mitigating, duty solicitor George Sorrell said: “The defendant, 27 years of age, has no previous convictions whatsoever.

“He went out for the day with his then girlfriend and their pet dog to spend the day at Wells Beach.

“While at Wells, he and his girlfriend went into a pub - really to have something to eat, but he also had something to drink, which is very unfortunate as on the way home he was stopped.”

Mr Sorrell told the court that Fysh works in the solar energy industry, and has managed to retain ownership of one of the dogs he and his ex-girlfriend owned following their break-up.

As well as serving his disqualification, Fysh will also pay a £581 fine, £232 victim surcharge and £85 in court costs.
