Borough council encourages Love West Norfolk Day as King's Lynn parkrunners celebrate area

Chocolates, roses... green spaces? On Tuesday, residents are being encouraged to celebrate the beauty of West Norfolk.

Love West Norfolk Day returns on Valentine's Day - with organisers asking people to highlight their pride at living or working in the borough.

The sixth edition of the event, put together by West Norfolk Council, aims to highlight online the natural beauty of our area - with a theme of celebrating and protecting its “beautiful” environment.

Cllr Sam Sandell, cabinet member for people and communities, said: “We’re giving residents and the many people who visit here the opportunity to put a spotlight on what they love about our beautiful part of the world by keeping the green Love West Norfolk theme this year.

“I hope to see people, organisations and businesses get involved online on February 14 by showcasing the best of our area, the need to protect it and what makes it so special.

Residents have been encouraged to use the online ‘#LoveWestNorfolk’ tag to showcase their favourite spots and their reasons for loving them.

Councillors say these could range from green spaces and gardens to walks and sunrises.

On Saturday (February 11), Lynn parkrun participants showed their support for the day. Judith Berry, one of the run directors, said: “Over 200 people come to The Walks to take part in the weekly event, we certainly appreciate the green space we have here in town.”

Gary Walker, event director, added: “The parkrunners all got into the spirit of #LoveWestNorfolk to celebrate the wonderful area in which we live and to also celebrate the fantastic setting we enjoy each Saturday here in The Walks, our brilliant and historic town centre park.”

The borough council has also urged people to join in by taking “one step” towards protecting the environment, such as by picking up one piece of litter. Those wishing to organise a community litter pick on the day can access Love West Norfolk kits from the council.

A Love West Norfolk day engagement pack is available online with all the ways that people can join in with this year’s event.
