King's Lynn based construction manager for Lovell is finalise in the Construction Manager of the Year Awards
A Lynn-based construction manager for partnership developer Lovell has been named as a finalist in a UK-wide awards scheme.
Michael Saunders, from Southery, has reached the finals of this year's Construction Manager of the Year Awards (CMYA).
The CMYA celebrate the achievements of those who inspire, lead and enable the best delivery of a project, and produce buildings that have a positive impact on those who use them.
The awards have been running for over 40 years, and showcase the talent of construction managers across the UK every year. As a result, they have a reputation for identifying the future leaders in the construction industry.
Michael, 50, is a finalist in the "residential under ten storeys" category, and set the bar high by completing his project with commendable innovation.
Based in Lynn, Michael first joined Lovell in September 2001. He began as a site manager and was promoted to contract manager in 2004, before becoming a construction manager in 2007.
Prior to Lovell, Michael had progressed to being a site manager at a different company by the age of 21.
Michael, who has lived in Norfolk his entire life, said: “My role generally involves overseeing all aspects of the live projects for West Norfolk Council from an operations perspective, as well as being the key point of contact for the client across Lynn.
“There’s never a dull moment with my role. I enjoy constantly facing new challenges, meeting new people, supporting and developing others into their roles, helping to encourage young people into the industry and delivering quality developments.
“At CMYA, the focus this year is on awards for people, rather than projects, and luckily for me I was considered worthy of a nomination.
“My goals for the future are to continue and expand the successful partnership with the borough council, whilst helping the Lovell business achieve its regional goals.”
Commenting on the award, Simon Medler, regional managing director for Lovell, said: “We are thrilled that Michael has been listed as a finalist for this award. At Lovell it’s our people who really make the difference – they bring innovation, commitment and expertise to everything they do. I’d like to thank Michael for all of his hard work and dedication to Lovell, and I’m very proud to see that his accomplishments have been recognised.”
