A47 closed at Necton today

The A47 is closed between Swaffham and Necton this morning after a serious accident.

A tweet from National Highways East said that the road is likely to be closed for most of the day.

AA Roadwatch shows that the road is closed shortly after the crossroads with the Dunham Road and Tuns Road, which is close to the Co-Op petrol station.

Norfolk Fire Service reported that it got a call at 5.39am to assist with rescue work at the crash scene. It said: "Appliances from Dereham, Watton and the drone support unit from Sandringham attended a road traffic collision on the A47. The scene was made safe and vehicle occupants released using hydraulic rescue equipment."

The firefighters were on scene for two hours before being recalled.

Diversions have been put in place by National Highways but drivers should allow extra time or avoid the area.
