Football fans in West Norfolk have shared the ecstasy and the agony as England went down to an extra time defeat in tonight's World Cup semi-final.

Hundreds of supporters poured into bars and pubs across the area to watch the match, with large queues developing outside some venues before kick-off.

The early arrivals were rewarded when Kieran Trippier's free kick gave England a first half lead.

But, as the tension mounted, goals from Ivan Perisic and Mario Mandzukic saw Croatia into Sunday's final against France.

England will now play Belgium in the third place playoff on Saturday.

Ahead of the game, police chiefs had again praised the attitude of fans during the tournament and appealed for revellers watching the game to do so safely.

Extra patrols are in place in Lynn and other towns tonight.
