Anglian Water failing West Norfolk over sewage discharge
Jason Borthwick writes: It’s so sad to see our local Conservative MPs being lied to and misled by their Government twice in less than two weeks. But more depressing is the fact that these local MPs followed the demands of their party whips without giving a thought to their constituents who they are supposed to represent.
The first vote on amendments to the Environment Bill saw the eight Conservative MPs in this county support the continued pumping of raw sewage into our rivers and sea. Our MPs tried to explain this vote as a support for the general public by protecting them from water bill increases to pay for improvements to our sewage systems, saying it would cost £150 billion to £600 billion.
The next day a leaked Government report showed the costs would be between £15 billion and £60 billion, about the same amount as paid in dividends by water companies.
