Another cash-point gone in Downham Market

It appears that another cash-point has been boarded up in a town, leaving only two places where residents can withdraw cash.

The cash-point in Downham, situated outside Martin's newsagent's has been boarded up for the last few days sparking fears that banking resources in the town will be reduced further.

A Downham resident said: "No we can only go to Tesco's or Morrison's, and half of the banks here are shut. There doesn't seem to be any problem with

opening up another hairdresser or take-away, but banks don't seem to be important."

Yesterday it was reported that none of the cash-points in Downham were working, due to a possible internet issue, although this is yet to be confirmed.

In recent years the Barclays and HBSC branches in the town have closed, leaving many residents no option but to travel to Lynn for banking services.

With Downham's high population of elderly residents, many are reluctant to use online banking or have the technology for mobile banking.

Elaine Woodall, 89, said: "I don't understand how to use all of these apps and like going into the bank to sort out my money, I can't do that in

Downham anymore."
