Peterborough man appeals for donations after death of 22-year-old friend at Bawsey
A fundraising page has been set up to help cover the costs of the funeral of a 22-year-old who died in the water at Bawsey at the weekend.
Kristers 'Kris' Bednarskis drowned at Bawsey Country Park on Saturday just two days after his birthday.
Emergency services were called to the location at around 11.30am and a man was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Kristers' friend Ilja Jevtusenko has set up the fundraising page for funeral costs and a nice headstone.
So far, the page has raised more than £4,690 of its £5,100 target.
Mr Jevtusenko, who is from Peterborough, said: "Kristers was an amazing friend to everyone, everyone that knows him will know he was the hardest working, kindest and nicest guy!
"He was an amazing friend, brother and son. Had big things going for him. He was there for everyone that needed help, now it's time to help him and his family.
"Let's raise some money for him and his family, to help them financially and not leave them in debt. One day we will all need help. Thank you for any donations made however small and big it is."
Among those who have donated to the cause are Christine Townsend, who said: "You [Kristers] were the kindest and most gentle young man I've ever had the privilege to teach."
Another comment said: "Taken far too young. An excellent young man."
