An investigation has been launched to trace a woman who picked up a child in a Fakenham card shop yesterday and began to walk away.

Police have stressed that the incident, which happened in Millers Walk at around 11am on Thursday, is isolated and say the child was returned unharmed without any confrontation.

Det Con Carl Ritchie, of Lynn CID, said: “Whilst it is unclear at this stage why the woman felt she needed to pick up the child, there is no evidence to suggest any sinister motive or whether a crime has actually taken place.

“However, we are keen to trace the woman to establish the circumstances around the incident.”

The woman is described as being in her 60s or 70s, with greying blonde hair and an aged face. She was also wearing a grey mac.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det Con Ritchie via the non-emergency 101 number.
