Police have sought to reassure residents after a man reportedly tried to grab a 10-year-old girl’s leg in a village park at the weekend.

An investigation has been launched into the incident, which happened in Wootton Park, on Cranmer Avenue, North Wootton, between 3.30 and 3.50pm on Sunday.

Extra patrols are being carried out in the area and officers will be talking to local school leaders about the incident.

Police say the girl and two nine-year-old boys were playing in the park when the man allegedly approached them from behind.

He then tried to grab the girl before running off into a wooded area next to the changing rooms. The attacker is described as black and five feet three inches tall.

He is said to have been wearing a black balaclava, black gloves, a light blue hooded top and grey track suit bottoms with orange high top trainers.

PC Maria Lambert, of Hunstanton police, who is investigating the incident, said: “We are asking anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward and are continuing to investigate what occurred.

“Incidents such as this are very rare for our area and the family are clearly concerned by what has happened. We are keen to speak to anyone with further information.”

Anyone with information should contact PC Lambert on the non-emergency 101 number.
