Author and Lynn News columnist wins book award

A Lynn News columnist has won a major book award.

Sarah Juggins wrote The History Makers with Richard Stainthorpe following Great Britain’s women’s hockey triumph at the Rio Olympics two years ago.

Now the book, which tells the story of the team led by Lynn-born coach Danny Kerry, has won the Thomson Reuters Illustrated Book of the Year.

The award was presented in a ceremony at Lord’s cricket ground on Thursday.

Sarah Juggins said: “For us authors it was our Oscar moment. It was brilliant to be on stage waving the baton for our sport.

“It was also bizarre for Richard and myself to be standing alongside some of the greats of sports writing, such as football writer Patrick Barclay.

“It was a moment I think we will both treasure and I still can’t quite believe it happened.

“Our thanks go to the photographers, Frank Uiljenbroek and Koen Syuk who so generously shared their photographs with us, they were the perfect accompaniment to our words and really showcased the sport.”

The book is available from a number of high street retailers as well as online.
