King's Lynn author Paul Lee writing second book hopes to hear more ghost stories

Are you a believer in ghosts? Do you think you’ve had an encounter with one? Or perhaps you’ve been told ghost stories from a family member who may have seen one? If so, one Lynn man may be wanting to hear from you.

Dr Paul Lee has already published one book in October 2021 of ghost stories in Lynn and West Norfolk and is working on a second edition hoping to add new stories as well as following up and adding historical context to previous ones.

The second edition of his book will be released in October and Paul is looking to hear stories from residents who live in West Norfolk.

“People have been generous with their stories,” said Paul.

As part of his research, Paul has been looking through newspaper archives and is a regular visitor at Lynn’s library. He said: “I’ve added to what I already know about older stories and have spent several hundred hours in the library.”

Two of Paul’s most memorable ghost stories is a sighting of a “strange grey figure” swearing in The Walks in Lynn and a ghost spotted walking up a set of stairs in the Duke’s Head Hotel.

“I’ve always been interested in ghosts, it might be because I was born on Halloween,” said Paul.

“My parents didn’t believe in ghosts but didn’t stop my interest.”

To gather the research, Paul has visited Lynn’s library as well as making visits to the British Library in London and the University of Cambridge Library.

Paul is also part of a nationwide paranormal investigation group, the association for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena.

The group has been running for over 40 year and Paul gave a talk on his ghost research for the anniversary held at the University of Bath.

“For the last few years I’ve been contacting thousands of locations across the UK trying to find out how haunted we are. The answer is; not as haunted as we thought! Have the ghosts faded away, become dormant ... or was there ever anything there in the first place?” said Paul.

Paul would like to urge potential readers to wait until November to buy his second edition, which adds to information in the first edition.
