Review of Biagio’s Tea Room in East Rudham: A cosy spot perfect for a tasty, warming lunch with friends
I had high expectations for Biagio’s after seeing it win a West Norfolk Food and Drink Award a few weeks prior to my visit.
The award win, in fact, spurred me on to visit the Italian Tearoom based in the quaint village of East Rudham.
So, does Biagio’s live up to its name as the tearoom/coffee shop of the year? My answer is: certainly yes.
I took my friends Beth and Liv along with me to visit on a rainy Saturday afternoon for a spot of lunch, and it certainly impressed us all.
Eager to get out of the rain, we admired the outside of the quaint building briefly before making our way inside.
We were soon greeted by a friendly member of staff who showed us to our table - we booked in advance in case it was busy.
A lot of thought has gone into decorating the inside of Biagio’s - the lightly coloured walls hold shelving with fitting decor and humourous signs.
An old fireplace is used well, with two inviting-looking armchairs centred around it.
Anyway, what about the food?
A blackboard of specials was on display as well as an extensive lunch menu full of hearty options perfect for the cooler weather.
We started off with drinks. As coffee lovers, Beth and I were keen to see what they had on offer.
I chose a latte with oat milk (£4), while Beth went for something a bit more extravagant and opted for a caramel coffee frappe (£5.50). Liv fancied a brew so got a pot of tea (£2.95).
All of our drinks went down a treat and the presentation of our coffees was impressive. Extra touches included a biscuit on the side.
For food, I went for one of the specials and opted for a warming tomato soup (£6.95) which came with croutons, bread and herby butter.
I really enjoyed this. Although a basic choice, the soup was full of flavour and was filling too.
Beth opted for the egg and cress baguette (£7.95) which came with a salad and tortilla chips. The baguette was huge and brimming with filling and Beth said the bread was light and fluffy.
Liv decided to have a jacket potato loaded with coronation chicken (£8.95) which also came with a side salad which she agreed was also filling and tasty.
I have one regret about our visit, and that is not picking up one of the delicious-looking cakes to take home with me. The vegan cinnamon buns looked exceptional.
Our total bill came to a reasonable £36.60, around £12 each split three ways. For the amount of food that we got and the quality of it, I didn’t begrudge paying it.
I cannot wait to visit Biagio’s again in future, next time I may try one of their delicious-looking afternoon teas.
