Swaffham Town Council delighted after community knitters put up beautiful flower display on Buttercross
A dedicated community of knitters gathered to celebrate their colourful designs being put up in a wonderful town display.
Residents in Swaffham have been busy voluntarily creating the crafted items after the town council was awarded a Love Your Market grant through Breckland Council and Norfolk County Council.
Members of the public gladly took the project on, and on Friday their finished decorations were put up on display on the Buttercross.
Plenty of individuals, friends and family members have taken part in this, with beautiful flowers of all shapes and sizes now lining the town centre monument.
Groups such as The Iceni Stitchers, the ESCAPE project, ‘Knit, Stitch and Natter’, and ‘Stitch, Mardle and Mend’ have also been in the thick of the action.
On Friday, Costa coffee in Swaffham offered to sponsor this event by providing free hot drinks for the community members who have supported this project.
Helen Carrier, the clerk for Swaffham Town Council, said: "Many thanks to all the knitting groups, Escape Project, residents, family and friends who have contributed to this wonderful community project.
“The flowers will stay up for the remainder of the year and two pillars will be dedicated to D Day in June and will be dressed with red poppies.
“Thanks to Breckland District Council and Norfolk County Council for funding through the ‘Love Your Market’ scheme.
“We hope that people will come to see the flowers in person and visit the vibrant market and town centre."
