Family and friends held a special party to celebrate West Winch resident Bob Wright’s 100th birthday recently.
Mr Wright, who has lived in the village for 51 years, used to run The Chequers pub in the early 1960s after previously owning a grocers shop in South Street in King’s Lynn.
He helped rescue a number of stranded people during the 1953 floods.
Sports fanatic Mr Wright played a major part in helping form West Winch Bowls Club, who he played for in the Silver Jubilee League which he is a former president of.
As well as liking bowls, Mr Wright also likes to watch horseracing and used to enjoy having the odd flutter.
Rosemary Barfoot, Mr Wright’s daughter, said: “We had a fantastic afternoon and the weather was lovely.”
