Big crowds enjoy Hunstanton Carnival weekend
Bumper crowds revelled in the sunshine during Hunstanton's annual carnival at the weekend.
A lunchtime dog show and a late evening fireworks display were among the highlights of Saturday's entertainment, before the traditional carnival parade took centrestage on Sunday.
Town councillor Robert Corby said Saturday's events had benefited from a "massive turn-out" of people.
He said: "It was one of the busiest days we have had this summer.
Steve Ellis, event controller and a member of the carnival committee added that everything had gone off like clockwork.
Attractions included a Punch and Judy show, music from singer Katie Macer and demonstrations by the East Coast Premier Martial Arts Academy and Alive Leisure.
The carnival procession featured many inventive floats and walking groups including the Rollason Stage School advertising this year's Christmas pantomime, Snow White, at the Princess Theatre in December in which they will be taking part.
Before that they are making an August trip to Disneyland Paris where they are also booked to perform.
The procession wound its way through the town from the playing fields and down to the lower green overlooking the sea just as England were kicking off in their World Cup match against Panama. There was a big cheer when England's 5-0 half-time lead was announced.
Hunstanton mayor, Amanda Bosworth, presented the prizes for the Best in Parade - One Hundred and One Dalmatians by Hunstanton Girl Guiding - and the Best Walking Group - Hunstanton Spring Nursery.
She also took part in the parade herself, sitting in a distinctive red Citroen 2CV car.
She said: "I've had a wonderful day. It was the best fun I've had in years."
She added that the carnival would not have been possible without the generosity of their sponsors and those who bought carnival raffle tickets which helped raise money to fund the carnival.
The next local event is Have a Field Day, a new initiative by the town council billed as a family sports day, which will take place at the community centre next Saturday, July 7, from noon to 4pm.
