Bingo night at Downham Market Greggs boosts store's fundraising efforts for Children in Need

A bakery store in Downham has raised almost £1,500 for Children in Need thanks to a number of fundraising events.

The team at Greggs in Wales Court have organised a variety of competitions, a quiz night and a tombola to gather money for the appeal, which supports projects across the UK.

And on Sunday, the store held a bingo night raising £673, bringing their total close to £1,500.

Store manager Mandy Stork said stores across the UK fundraise for the annual appeal, with Greggs being a Children in Need partner.

She said the team "really wanted to try and raise as much money as possible", and so about a month ago, they started by asking businesses for donations of prizes.

They then organised a number of competitions including one to 'name the bear'. A quiz night, a tombola stall and the bingo night have also added to their efforts.

"On both the quiz and bingo, Greggs kindly gave us free cakes, sausage rolls and hot drinks to give to the people who came to support our events," Mandy added.

"But we really couldn’t have raised £1,391.01 with the fantastic businesses around Downham who generously gave us the prizes for these events, or the people who came to each event.

"But more importantly to my team here at Greggs who have donated prizes and their time to help make these events the amazing success they have been."

Their bid to reach £1,500 is not over, as the store is holding another tombola on Friday to coincide with Children in Need day.
