Body found in Wiggenhall St Germans river during search for teenage boy who disappeared while kayaking

A body has been found in the search for a teenage boy who went missing while kayaking at the weekend.

Police have confirmed that the body of a teenage boy was found in the water at Middle Level Main Drain in St Germans this afternoon.

The discovery follows reports to police that an 18-year-old went missing after his kayak capsized on Sunday at 3.49pm and a member of the public had called emergency services.

While formal identification is yet to take place the family of the missing teenager has been informed and is receiving support.

The teenager who went missing had been out in an inflatable kayak, not a canoe as previously stated. This was recovered on the day he went missing.

Emergency services have been on the scene, including a dive team with sonar capabilities, specialist dogs, Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service and Lowland Search and Rescue.

A cordon was in place while officers investigated the circumstances of the death but this has now been lifted.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained but not suspicious. A file will be passed to the coroner in due course.
