Proposals to build a new shop in Burnham Market have been branded “overbearing” by community leaders.
Developers are seeking to build on a site adjacent to the Hamilton Antiques premises in North Street.
And the West Norfolk Council planning committee has been urged to approve the scheme at its meeting on Monday, despite the opposition of the parish council.
It said: “The proposed building would occupy near on the entire footprint of the plot, making the proposals out of proportion to the location and to the site itself.”
Members are also worried about the impact of the plans, submitted by B & L Properties Ltd, on pedestrian safety on North Street.
But planning officers say the proposal would fit in with surrounding buildings and would not harm the conservation area.
The applicants also claim a large nearby car park containing almost 200 spaces, for which plans were approved last year, will address traffic and access concerns.
