Swaffham is to host the first of a new series of meetings aimed at updating land managers on issues such as best practice and funding.

The free Farm Business Updates will be staged across the eastern region in January and February and have been organised by CLA East, the Campaign for the Farmed Environment (CFE), NFU, Defra, Farming Advice Service (FAS), Environment Agency, Essex and Suffolk Water, Anglian Water, and Affinity Water.

They kick off at the Green Britain Centre at 9.30am on Tuesday, January 27.

Each event will provide updates on rules, regulations and new funding options.

The keynote speaker is Philip Wright, who has been involved in the development of machinery for cultivation and tillage for over 30 years.

Contact the CLA on 01638 590429 for more details.

Presentations will be given by the local CFE, Environment Agency, water company, FAS, and Rural Development Programme for England representatives, with updates on CAP reform including greening, the new agri-environment scheme, cross compliance and the Basic Payment Scheme.

The importance of water resource protection at a local level and the grants and funding streams available to farmers and land managers will also be covered.

His presentation will focus on lessons learned from his soil husbandry visits and on-farm discussions on machinery choices.
