A year after setting up as a Slimming World consultant, Jo Jackson has seen people’s lives turned around by shedding stones of weight.
Jo, who set up a group in Heacham last January, was so overwhelmed by the number of members who joined that she had to move to a larger venue at Hunstanton Community Centre.
Success followed for her in July, when the group won a prestigious gold award given for member retention in groups over a three month period.
Now Jo is aiming to recruit more members to join her classes held on Tuesdays at 5.30pm and 7.30pm.
She said: “I has an awe inspiring start to setting up Slimming World at Heacham. It has changed my life from when I joined as a member and lost three dress sizes, to moving on and becoming a consultant, which has become one of the most rewarding things I have ever done.”
Two of the success stories from her group are Kelly Rix, of Sedgeford, who lost two-and-a-half stones, and Ian Prentice, from Lynn, who shed in excess of four stones in just seven months.
Kelly was chosen by the group to be crowned Woman of the Year because of her weight loss achievement. She said: “I am the ‘award girl’ in my group and love congratulating people on their achievements. Hearing their stories each week keeps me focused, and even if we have a small weight gain, everyone supports each other to keep them on track.”
Ian joined in January last year, enjoyed the diet of eating unlimited amounts of pasta, potatoes lean meats and fruit and veg, and by July had shed four stones. He was selected as Man of the Year. He said: “I got to go parasailing with my son on a recent holiday in Turkey, which is something I hadn’t been able to do before because of my weight. Being in a group is the best thing to do as we are all in it together and help each other reach their goal and stay on track.”
