A new business in Hunstanton aims to provide a solution for dog owners needing a holiday home for theiranimals and an opportunity for those without a pet to enjoy some canine company.
Tania Stowe, of Old Town Way, has just started to run Barking Mad, a franchise, which offers people who for whatever reason can’t have a dog of their own, the chance to dog sit while owners are away.
“I discovered Barking Mad when looking for a holiday home for our own dogs,” said Tania, who moved with her family to Norfolk from Kent just under two years ago.
“There are many people who can’t have their own dog but who would welcome the chance to take in a dog for a temporary holiday as an alternative to kennels and enjoy the social aspect of going out walking and meeting up with other hosts, for whom we regularly organise get togethers, which gives people the chance to become part of a wider dog-loving community.”
Her business area extends from Lynn to Holt and south to Dereham. Potential hosts have a home visit to check the suitability of homes and gardens.
“We have a very long vetting sheet where we find out as much as possible about the dog and the environment where it is going to. We aim to build up a very detailed picture of the dog covering diet, exercise and behaviour.”
Hosts operate on a voluntary basis but are paid expenses. Tania sets up the arrangement and makes sure it is fully safe and insured.
