A strong family spirit runs throughout the team at Lynn’s Williams Refrigeration where long serving members have collectively clocked up a 1,000 years of service.

Managing director Tim Smith paid tribute to the “amazing contribution” of long service staff when awards marking their achievement were presented at a ceremony last week.

He said: “The length of time staff stay creates a creates a real sense of family in the company. Even more so since we actually do have members of the same families working here – daughters, sons, fathers, mothers, cousins! This brilliant team spirit is created by the staff and it contributes directly to our success.”

Employees at the Bryggen Road business on North Lynn Industrial Estate tend to stay for a long while with the average length of tenure being 15 years and adding up all the people who reach 15, 20 and 30 years’ landmarks gives an overall total of well over 1,000 years.

One of two people who were given awards for 30 years’ service was Karen Redhead, who works in the finance team. She said: “My first day at Williams was on June 30, 1986. I was nervous but can remember everyone making me feel welcome.

“Many things have changed over the 30 years, from new products and technologies to new health and safety rules. Work colleagues change, too, of course, but this is a very friendly company and I still keep in touch with many who have left.”

The other 30-year staff member to receive an award is Lee Cook.

He said: “One of the highlights of my time at Williams was getting the opportunity to help set up the US office, in 1996, when I spent three months living in New York.”

Staff who received the 20-year awards were continuous improvement supervisor John Hopgood, Plant 2 operative Andrew Cade, R&D team member Simon Moore and Plant 1 operative Tim P Smith.

Staff received monetary vouchers of their choice plus champagne for the 30-year award recipients.
