A West Norfolk tradesman has been named one of the best window, door and conservatory fitters in the country after competing in a national competition.
David Shaw, of Shaw Home Improvements based in Terrington St John, was just one of six finalists selected from hundreds of window fitters across the country to compete in the FIT show Master Fitter Challenge.
To qualify David was interviewed and observed operating in normal site conditions by an assessor from GQA Qualifications which covers the glass and construction industries.
During the live competition at The International Centre in Telford David had to fit a casement window, a door and a solid porch roof against the clock under the gaze of the assessors.
David said: “It was an honour to be selected for the finals and to be recognised for my expertise and skills. It was a tough competition which tested not only our technical ability but also our knowledge of building regulations. I’m looking forward to taking part again next year.”
Mick Clayton, Chief Executive of GQA Qualifications, said: “The standards the finalists set during every aspect of the competition are benchmarks for professionalism and skill in this industry and should be aspirational for all window, door and conservatory fitters working in the industry.”
Although not chosen as the winner, David is proud to have been recognised as one of the country’s best fitters and is determined to return to the competition next year.
