Downham Market ovarian cancer survivor Diane Boothby campaigns at Parliament
A cancer survivor was recognised for her fundraising and campaigning efforts during a day at Parliament.
Diane Boothby, 65, from Downham, visited London with Target Ovarian Cancer to speak with Government officials about ways to tackle the disease.
Terry Jermy, the MP for South West Norfolk, accompanied her and gave his pledge of support - as did the Shadow Minister for Health, Andrew Gwynne.
Diana invited Downham borough councillor Josie Ratcliffe to the event, and also met Steffan Aquarone, the MP for North Norfolk.
Diane said: “It was a wonderful day and finally, we feel we will get a government campaign for early diagnosis for ovarian cancer, and this will help save ladies' lives.”
Three other ladies attended the event alongside Diane having met each other through her campaigning - Barbara Torbett, Anne Clark and Glenys Dawkins.
Diane said she has been asked to meet with the Big C Cancer Charity in Norwich, which also wants to get involved.
She added: “Also supporting and helping spread the awareness are Craig McMurrough and Sarah Jane Fritchley who dress as ovaries and do 10km runs and marathons.
“We are hoping they will be pushing me in my wheelchair next year again in the winter 10k in London.
“It is amazing how many ladies there are in this region affected by this horrible disease.
“It does not just affect us but it has a big impact on our families and friends.”
