Downham Market man Dennis Muriuki in King’s Lynn court after police found cannabis on him during search

Police discovered cannabis on a 33-year-old who was being arrested on separate matters.

Dennis Muriuki, of Bridge Road in Downham, appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, where he admitted having 9.36g of cannabis in his possession.

Prosecutor Asif Akram told the court that Muriuki was arrested on September 4 on unrelated matters.

When taken to Lynn’s Police Investigation Centre, Muriuki was searched and police found the quantity of the class B drug.

In mitigation, Ruth Johnson said that Muriuki had bought the cannabis via social media and it had a street value of around £20.

She told the court that Muriuki currently isn’t working due to mental health issues.

“Covid hit when he finished his masters degree, so he moved back home to support his mother,” Ms Johnson said.

Muriuki was fined £80 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £32 and court costs £85.
