It comes after police decided to visit a travel site in Wisbech on July 6, as they had previously found cannabis on the premises.

Officers spoke to Dexter, who has a self-container on the site, and asked to look inside.

Dexter replied: “I don’t mind you looking through my stuff.”

Police reported hearing a humming noise coming from inside the container, which sounded like lighting equipment needed to grow cannabis.

A total of 14 cannabis plants were found inside the container, and Dexter confirmed that he had been growing it for his own personal use.

A quantity of the harvested drug was found inside, which is thought to be valued between £158-£263.

In mitigation, Charlotte Winchester said that since the offence that took place back in July, Dexter has altered the amount of cannabis he is using.

Ms Winchester said: “He felt it was easier and cheaper to grow his own cannabis.

“He fully cooperated with police and made full admissions in interview.”

The solicitor explained that Dexter isn’t working due to caring for his unwell grandad.

Ms Winchester also praised her client for taking the matter into his own hands to rectify his drug habit.

Magistrates fined Dexter £80 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £32 and court costs of £145.
