Marshland St James care home celebrates World Cocktail Day
Residents at a care home in Marshland St James were visited by expert cocktail makers and got to try a special tipple ahead of the Platinum Jubilee.
Fenspirits visited the Hickathrift House care home Friday, May 13, on world cocktail day which is a global celebration of cocktails.
The date marks the publication of the first recorded definition of a cocktail on that day in 1806 as a stimulating liquor, composed of spirits of any kind, sugar, water and bitters.
It was certainly an afternoon of fun-filled tastings for the residents at Hickathrift House care home with the support of Fenspirits.
To mark the day, residents were joined by the local, family owned and run distillery, Fenspirits which started in their kitchen in 2016 and have started compounding spirits and selling them at shows and across the country.
Each bottle is filled, corked, wax sealed and then labelled by hand.
Hickathrift House residents and staff were fascinated to learn about their history and of course to try an array of interesting and delicious spirits and cocktails.
The highlight of the afternoon was tasting Fenspirits new, Platinum Jubilee Cocktail, which can be purchased on their website.
Kirsty Wiskin, deputy general manager at Hickathrift House said: "We have all had so much fun today trying all sorts of different spirits from Fenspirits.
"Our residents really enjoyed their tasting session and had fun sampling their new Platinum Jubilee cocktail."
Norah, a 100-year-old resident at Hickathrift House said: "I absolutely loved the Platinum Jubilee cocktail.
"I very much enjoyed trying some different spirits too, I always like to try new things.
"I can’t wait to tell my daughter all about today."
Elsie, another resident said: "We can’t thank Fenspirits enough for visiting us. We’ve all laughed and had a grand time. I wish them all the best."
Hickathrift House is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers.
