Marshland St James care home Hickathrift House celebrating bees with King's Lynn Heath Farmhouse Ltd




Staff and residents at Hickathrift House care home in Marshland St James were buzzing when they celebrated all things bees with Heath Farmhouse Ltd.

Lynn-based Heath Farmhouse Ltd is a family run small farm that makes and sells natural products such as honey, wax melts, candles and balm. Proceeds from every bee product goes back to the bees on their farm.

Heath Farmhouse Ltd provides educational talks, recovers hives and bee swarms and offers unique experiences booting up to see the colonies. They are specialists in removing honey bees and bumblebees from roofs and chimneys and all bees are relocated to a purely organic farm as part of Fring estate to enjoy the natural environment that’s had been created for them.

Heath Farmhouse Ltd hosted a fabulous talk raising awareness of the importance of bees and beekeeping. Residents had a bee-rilliant time learning all about bees from how they build their hives to how their nutrition impacts the honey.

Residents enjoyed hearing all the fascinating facts and personal stories from the beekeepers as well as seeing and feeling the bees in their frame.

Heath Farmhouse Ltd finished the fabulous talk by donating a basket full of their incredible honey, seeds to make a bee friendly wild garden and delicious Sandringham apple juice.

General manager, Paula Colman said: “Our residents all love to watch the wildlife in our gardens, so they were only too happy to discover more about bees and how we can support them.

"Heath Farmhouse Ltd were exceptional and made special moments for every resident, from letting residents with sight impairments to touch the glass and feel the bees buzz, to creating a fun fact bee sheet for a resident who loved hearing all the facts.

"We can’t thank them enough for these special moments and spectacular donations.”

Dolly, a resident said: “I have always found bees fascinating, they really are marvellous little creatures.

"We used to keep bees and this talk brought back fond memories.

"We had such an interesting afternoon today, I loved the bee keeper talk and looking forward to sampling all their local honey, it looks absolutely delicious!”
