Dedication award for Heacham-based carer who has not looked back following career change
After working 80 hours a week in a Post Office and store, carer Anne Jenner decided to make a career change.
She and partner Peter ran the Grimston store for 15 years but the hours became an issue and her career change has paid off as she has won an award for her dedication.
Anne, 53, joined the Heacham office of Extra Hands in 2022 and is now the proud recipient of a Going the Extra Mile (GEM) Award after being nominated by a colleague.
“I worked in a care home before coming to Extra Hands, working with people who had dementia. I somehow seem to have a connection with older people and I really love what I do,” she said.
Moving to care at home meant Anne had the chance to meet different people in their own environment and she has not looked back.
“I was really thrilled to get the award,” said the mother of two.
Her nomination said: “Anne was so supportive when I was shadowing her, she encouraged me to be confident. She made all the service users smile whilst visiting them. Anne even checked in on me once I was working on my own to see how I was doing which means a lot.”
Anne said: “I love my job and working for Extra Hands, they have all been really nice and are a good bunch to work with.”
She said her working hours are ideal for her and she is happy to have made the move to the family-run home care company.
