Castle Acre pupils set up camp in aid of children's charity

Youngsters from Castle Acre Primary School have been learning about some of life’s hardships with a sponsored den day.

Children were encouraged to build their own dens out of materials including cardboard and plastic sheeting before spending the night camping out in their new shelter.

Teacher Karen Shrimpton said: “Save the Children is our chosen charity this year and they host these den days. They are to teach our children about what others have to go through, such as children in the Bangladesh floods.

“They designed their own dens and then our years 3 and 6 came back to take part in a sponsored sleepover.

“They had to sleep in their sleeping bags in their dens, and they were sleeping in their normal clothes.

“We have raised £586 for Save the Children which we feel is a lot because there were only 67 children taking part in the den day and then 28 sleeping out.”
