Almost £2,000 was raised for the Lynn Macmillan Cancer Support group when it held its annual Picnic at the Castle music evening at the weekend.

The event, the seventh the group has held, took place at Castle Rising Castle on Saturday evening, by permission of Lord Howard, and featured music from Swing That Thing.

A total of £1,850 was raised during the evening, which also included a raffle.

Group chairman Howard Moore said he was pleased with the success of the evening, despite the numbers of people attending being slightly lower than in previous years.

He thanked Lord Howard for use of the castle, John Rudd for his assistance and Judy and Charlie Curtis for organising the event.

The event took place just two weeks after a gala dinner celebrating the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Lynn group.

The dinner was attended by guests including the former head of the Army, General Lord Dannatt.
