Chairman Chris collecting memories of Lynn Players

By Lynn News Reporter

For the past 75 years the award-winning King’s Lynn Players have been entertaining West Norfolk audiences with a mixture of full scale musicals, pantomine, plays and old-time music halls.

There have been so many members and shows over the years but who better to look back than current chairman, Chris Fox, who has been with the society for nearly 40 years.

Chris says: “My over-arching memories of the Players are the people and friendships I have made along the way. I joined the Players in 1980/81 when I was found waiting for my then girlfriend, now wife, Sharon who was appearing in a Music Hall. I stepped inside the backstage door as it was raining.”

He continues: “The Players’ stage manager was Arthur Ely, by coincidence a friend of my dad. He asked me: What I was up to? I was then invited to come back the following night to help backstage and the rest, they say, is history.

“The following year I appeared on stage in the Dream Ballet in Oklahoma.”

Since then Chris has appeared in more than 70 productions with the Players and has been chairman for the last three years. In that time he has seen a lot of changes within the society and the productions they present.

Chris adds: “One of my proudest moments was taking the role of King Arthur in Camelot, the first amateur musical to play at the newly refurbished Corn Exchange in 1997.

"We are really looking forward to returning there again this year. I have spent the last few weeks collecting memories from past and present members.

"The King’s Lynn Players have achieved so much in the last 75 years and we would love to hear more memories from Lynn News readers. Contact us on info@kingslynnplayers.co.uk.”
