Children at West Norfolk school create boot-iful gifts for Mother's Day

Youngsters at a West Norfolk primary school have created a different kind of floral gift ahead of Mother’s Day this weekend.

Children at Ingoldisthorpe Primary School will take home flowers planted in welly boots to their mums for the special day this Sunday.

Headteacher Sean Wright said about 60 pupils took part in the unusual activity, which also had an environmental focus, by reusing old wellies.

Mr Wright said parents had donated the old boots, which were then filled with compost and flowers such as violas and pansies planted inside.

“It was a bit different and as an outdoor school we try to be as environmentally friendly as possible by using something that would usually be thrown away,” he added.

“The children were incredibly excited as it’s something they are doing for their mums.”

Mr Wright said they were due to go on a walk through the woods on Wednesday but this had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“It was a real shame,” he added. “But we thought the Mother’s Day activity would really help cheer them up in these difficult times.”

The youngsters will take their gifts home ahead of the schools closing this week.
