Review of Terracotta House in Downham Market: Chinese takeaway did not disappoint and provided cosy night in with tasty food

With Christmas just gone, what better way to spend a cosy Saturday evening in than with a nice Chinese in front of the fire?

When ordering a Chinese we usually stick to the same one so as not to disappoint, but this time we decided to venture out and try a new place.

So, on Saturday evening my mum, dad and I placed an order at Terracotta House in Downham –however, they do not offer a delivery service so we had to go pick it up.

On arrival, it seemed quite busy and we had to wait a little while to collect our food, although we asked for it to be ready to collect 45 minutes after placing the order.

By the time we got the food home, it was still very warm and smelt delicious.

The dishes we went for were a chicken and a beef curry both served with egg fried rice for £8.50 each.

We also went for my favourite dish – crispy seaweed which was £4.50.

Sticking to our usual order we opted for sweet and sour chicken balls (£6.20), chicken chow mein £6.30, crispy shredded chicken and crispy shredded beef which were £6.30 each and a portion of chips for £2.90.

Our meal did not disappoint and each mouthful was full of flavour – I particularly liked that the chicken balls were not greasy like some we have had before from other takeaways. My favourite dish was the shredded chicken as it was just so yummy.

My mum really liked her food, however, she did say that the curry was a little bit on the bland side but still ate it and enjoyed it.

My dad demolished his meal and said he could not fault any of it.

The portion size of each dish provided plenty for all three of us with leftovers for the next night.

Our bill came to a total of £51, which worked out at £17 each for eight dishes with enough left over for food the next night – not bad at all.

Overall, we would definitely recommend Terracotta House and order from there again as it provided lovely food - but it would have been even better if they offered a delivery service.

Terracotta House at 16 London Road in Downham is open on Sunday-Thursday from 5pm -10pm and Friday and Saturday from 5pm-10.30pm.

Ratings out of five:

Food: There was a wide range to choose from on the menu and the food was yummy. ****

Staff: The staff were polite when we went to collect the order. *****

Price: I think the price was very reasonable, especially with enough left over for tea the next night. ****
