Speakers to be installed in Downham Market for two weeks to create ‘Christmas atmosphere’

Downham Town Council has decided that speakers will be installed outside the town hall for two weeks near Christmas.

It is hoped to create a “Christmas atmosphere” during part of December, with festive music being played during the town’s market operating hours.

Councillors were initially debating having the speakers installed for four weeks, costing £660. However, it was decided by the council that due to costs, the speakers would be installed for two weeks.

The council also discussed the idea of approaching local musicians and asking them if they would play at Christmas.

A vote was carried for placing the speakers in the town for a two-week period.
