While the event was for fun and celebrated the end of term and the festive season, it also helped to raise funds which will go back into the school.

Principal Sarah Wilson said youngsters were asked to bring a donation for the tombola at a Christmas fair held on Monday, which in turn raised funds for the Friends of Nelson Academy group.

She said their efforts at the fair had raised almost £800, which will be used to support a few outdoor projects that they will be starting in the coming year.
