Gala music concert at Snettisham church promises to be ‘unforgettable’ event




A charity music gala is to be held in the setting of a picturesque church.

Dersingham Choir is hosting the event at St Mary’s Church at Snettisham, on Saturday, October 18 starting at 7pm with doors opening from 6.30pm

The gala will feature Jenny Williams (soprano), Daniel Meades (tenor) and pianists Matthew Preston and Benjamin Howell performing works by Verdi, Puccini, Bernstein, Gershwin, Dvorak and more.

Jenny, from Docking, is musical director of Dersingham Choir. After graduating from the Guildhall School of Music she began her career singing opera for companies including Pavilion Opera, Pimlico Opera and Les Arts Florissants performing roles including Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, The Countess in The Marriage of Figaro and Micaëla in Carmen, as well as many oratorios and solo concert performances.

Daniel has performed in more than 30 countries as a tenor soloist and has worked with companies such as Scottish Opera Go Round, English Touring Opera, Pavilion Opera and Opera Brava, and is currently a member of the extra chorus at English National Opera.

Benjamin and Matthew perform together as The Missing Coda, and they teach music in schools and work with other organisations throughout Norfolk.

Benjamin, of East Barsham, has toured the world as musical director, pianist and keyboard player in musicals, pantomimes, theatre productions and on cruise ships.

Matthew, of Fakenham, is accompanist for the Dersingham Choir. He graduated with a First Class Honours degree from Leeds College of Music, has been organist at Burnham Deepdale church and is a trustee of the Norfolk County Music Festival.

Jan Wilson, chairperson of the choir committee said: “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome such gifted musicians to Snettisham. Our gala evening promises an unforgettable night filled with beautiful classical music and opera, performed by some of the most talented artists from our own community.”

There is free parking at the church and wheelchair access. Money raised by the gala will go towards the choir, a registered charity which meets on Thursdays at St Cecilia’s Church Hall, Dersingham.
