Classrooms at Middleton Church of England Primary Academy remain closed due to flood damage
Two classes at a primary school remain closed today due to damage caused by flooding over the weekend.
Middleton Church of England Primary Academy was shut on Friday after heavy rain hit the area, with two classes still closed today.
This has been to allow for cleaning to take place, as well as damage caused by the flooding to be rectified.
Staff have met with contractors and were able to partially reopen the school – and hope to have all classes up and running again by tomorrow.
As of today, the oldest age group’s class is open. Teachers have arranged home learning for the two which remain closed.
A statement from executive head teacher Rachael Greenhalgh said: “The classes most impacted by the flood will have the carpets cleaned as soon as we are given the go-ahead and the contractor is working hard to ensure that the electrical systems in those classes are isolated and therefore safe for students to return.
“If the two remaining classes are able to be open on Thursday they will have heating and light but may not have access to any other electrical systems as these may need to remain switched off until further work can be done.
“Once again we appreciate how disruptive closing the school is for families. I would like to thank our families for their understanding and for working hard to complete the home learning.
“I would also like to thank staff who have been working hard in school to help with the clean-up and provide learning for our pupils now both on and off site.”
