Clenchwarton villagers club together to raise money for new community centre
Hundreds flocked to Clenchwarton Fun Day on Saturday to raise money for a new village community centre.
The third annual Clenchwarton Fun Day, which was held on the village’s playing field, brought a day of live entertainment, fairground rides and refreshments.
Visitors were invited to take part in a number of activities including fairground rides, craft sales, car boot sales, dog shows, raffles and tombolas, as well as a hog roast.
An organiser said: “It was an excellent day. There were well over 200 people in attendance.
“We had a number of performers and bands including Rachel Bea, who was singing songs from the 50s and 60s.
“There was also local bands Hush, Happy Jacks and Beer Club. They were all brilliant.
“We are wanting to raise money to build a new community hall in the village.
“We think it is important to have somewhere where the community can gather.
“It is nice to do these activities because they get people out and about, talking to one another.
“Some people could spend days inside not talking to anyone but now we have these events, they can come along and meet up with friends or meet new friends and have a nice day.
“I think it is really important to get the community together and have activities.”
The organisers said they are planning on meeting up later this month to discuss their next village-wide community event.
