Feet First Chiropody Clinic in Downham Market turns cracked window into a ‘heel-arious’ display
A clinic owner has refused to let a spate of vandalism get her down - and has transformed a cracked window into a heel-arious piece of artwork.
Feet First Chiropody Clinic in Downham was vandalised on Grand National day in April - but has now turned the damaged window into a cracked foot.
A member of staff turned up to work in the morning to find it smashed.
Natalie May, owner of the business and a podiatrist, said that CCTV showed a drunken man pushing another into the glass.
“It has been a long process. When I went to claim off my insurance, it turned out it does not cover the glass,” she told the Lynn News.
“So I had no way of getting anyone to pay out for the damage that happened when I was not there.”
Natalie received a quote of £2,000 to replace the window, which she was unfortunately unable to afford.
However, someone suggested making something good out it - so Natalie said: “I will get a sticker and instead of trying to hide it, I will draw attention to it and try and make something funny out of it.
“So instead of people coming in and saying, ‘Oh, what has happened?’, they come in and say, ‘Oh, that is funny’.”
Her receptionist suggested comparing the smashed window to a cracked heel, to “make a joke of it”.
Natalie approached her artwork contractors to design a sticker for the front window.
The idea has already been a bit hit, with customers finding it hilarious.
“We are getting some really positive feedback from it,” Natalie said.
“When the insurance would not pay out, I was feeling really down about it, and now it's quite nice because people are coming in and we are having a laugh.
“We have turned something negative and quite upsetting into something that people can have a giggle about.”
The sticker will be turned into a spooky foot at Halloween later this year, and then don a Santa hat at Christmas. However, the cracked window is only temporary until it is able to be replaced.
