King’s Lynn Festival Coffee Concert recital by talented young Chinese pianist Yuzhang Li
Review: King’s Lynn Festival Coffee Concerts by Yuzhang Li
Lynn Town Hall
One of the pleasures the King’s Lynn Festival Coffee Concerts give is the opportunity for audience members to hear recitals given by talented younger musicians, and the recent piano coffee concert given by 23-year-old Chinese pianist, Yuzhang Li, at Lynn Town Hall gave that opportunity to great effect.
Yuzhang Li, was one of 10 Leeds International Piano Competition semi- finalists in 2021, and has subsequently won other piano competitions and been praised by Lang Lang , no less. She has performed widely, both here and abroad as soloist and chamber musician; she studies at The Royal Academy of Music and became an ABRSM Scholar.
Her Lynn recital consisted of Beethoven’s Piano Sonata in A major, No.28, Op. 101, Tchaikovsky’s Dumka in C minor, Op.59 (a Dumka being a traditional improvised Slavic folk song) and the first seven of Rachmaninoff’s ten Preludes, Op.23.
Yuzhang’s performances of these technically difficult, mainly romantic works, were dramatic, but sensitive when required and full of feeling when appropriate. Her fine technique was much appreciated by the full and enthusiastic audience.
The next Coffee Concert is given on the morning of Friday, December 8, 11am at Lynn Town Hall. It will be a violin and piano recital to be given by Zsofia Foris and Noemi Csoke. Coffee and cakes served from 10.30am.
