Community orchard in Northwold to be formally opened by Baroness Shephard

A new community orchard will get its formal opening next month.

Northwold and Whittington’s Queen Elizabeth II Community Orchard will be declared ‘open’ by Baroness Shephard of Northwold at noon on Sunday, May 7, to coincide with the village’s special coronation picnic.

Funded in part by West Norfolk Council and West Norfolk’s Community Infrastructure Levy Fund, this new orchard is a parish council project and has been designed and planted by a young gardener Callum Metson from Stoke Ferry.

Northwold and Whittington Parish Council chair Cliff Anderson said: “I’m delighted that after months of planning, our new community orchard has come to life.

“With 32 fruit trees, a herb garden and free compost for villagers and visitors, we have been able to turn an otherwise unused village area into a community space for everyone, including local wildlife, to enjoy for decades to come.”
