West Norfolk's September 2023 in review: Community remembers 10-year-old Ronni, Minis meet up again and fire breaks out at town supermarket
Reporter Lucy Carter takes a look back at some of the biggest news stories in West Norfolk in September 2023...
September saw communities come together to raise awareness of tragedy but also in hopes of making West Norfolk a safer place to travel.
Villagers in Terrington St Clement decided that enough was enough and kick-started a campaign to change a controversial A-road junction.
They had become disillusioned by a lack of action at the junction where Station Road joins the A17 despite numerous crashes and called the meeting after another serious incident happened two weeks prior which left a motorcyclist with life-changing leg injuries.
Despite various failures to achieve change in previous years, this group of villagers with a point to prove believed that they had what it takes to convince Norfolk County Council of their concerns.
Lynn residents also came together to pay tribute to a 10-year-old boy who died on a family holiday while suffering from a rare genetic condition.
Ronni Johnson had a rare genetic condition called Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Complex (PDC) and passed away in July.
His parents Danielle and Keron Johnson held a fun day in Wootton Park to raise money for My Mito Mission - a charity which aims to find a cure for the childhood disease, which also claimed the life of Ronni’s younger brother Freddi five days after his birth in 2014.
The fun day raised a grand total of £3,963 and another £6,110 was raised via their JustGiving page.
Firefighters tackled a blaze at Sainsbury's on Lynn’s Hardwick Industrial Estate after part of the store went up in flames.
It is still unknown how the fire started – which saw the store close temporarily for two days.
Several fire crews were called to the incident at the premises.
Luckily, no customers or staff members were hurt during the fire.
Hundreds of Mini enthusiasts gathered at Lynn’s Tuesday Market Place to showcase their beloved vehicles.
More than 100 cars descended to Lynn for the annual event organised by West Norfolk Council.
Old and new versions of the popular vehicle filled the car park as proud owners showed off their beloved motors.
Music was performed by The Groove Hounds and The Hornets, entertaining people as they walked around the market place to see what was on offer.
