New crime-fighting project set for Sutton Bridge launch
Residents are being urged to take part in a new programme to help tackle crime in their community.
Sutton Bridge has been chosen as one of four pilot sites for a new social inclusion programme which is being launched by Lincolnshire Police.
The force is working with Mutal Gain along with other partners on this project, which is hoped to find solutions for crime.
People who have a connection to Sutton Bridge and would like to make a difference are asked to take part in a socially distanced meeting next Saturday, October 24, in the Curlew Centre.
A leaflet which the police have posted on social media says: “To reduce levels crime and anti-social behaviour, Lincolnshire police are committed to listening to residents as solutions designed by those affected by crime are more likely to sustain crime reductions over time.”
The initiative has been welcomed by Chris Brewis who represents the village on Lincolnshire County, South Holland District and Sutton Bridge Parish Councils.
He said: “Any initiative that we have got that brings people together in the community has got to be a good idea.”
Over the next 12 months, the police will be working with Mutal Gain on this project, which will include a world cafe and a participatory budgetting programe.
The leaflet states: “Lincolnshire Police are working with Mutal Gain to gain a better understanding of why crime occurs, and to support the local community to get involved in way that they believe will make a difference.”
According to the leaflet, World Cafes are an opportunity to listen, discuss and exchange views on community issues.
This programme starts with a group of residents, police officers and local councillors who will receive training.
Another stage of the programme is the participatory budget where the community will be able to apply for funding for projects.
The people involved will also be able to have say on how the money will be spent.
The leaflet posted by police adds: “The Lincolnshire Community will decide who will be awarded the money based on the projects that they like most once we have established a community steering group to help plan and shape the criteria for the programme.”
Volunteers are being urged to attend the meeting at The Curlew Centre which will run from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, October 24.
The leaflet states: “We are looking for committed members of the community in the Sutton Bridge area who have the local knowledge, the local contacts and the influence to make things happen.”
