Family's concerns heard at inquest in King's Lynn

The family of a 45-year-old woman who died in hospital this year have spoken of their concerns regarding her previous care.

The inquest into the death of Kerri Neale, held at Lynn’s Coroners’ Court on Friday, heard that she died at Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital on January 22, after spending more than two months there as a patient.

The court was told that Ms Neale, of Norwich Road, Wisbech, underwent a kidney transplant at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge in 2009 following a diagnosis of renal failure in 2000.

In a statement read to the court, Ms Neale’s daughter Jade Neale-Landeryou said she felt her mother “did not receive the care she required” from her GP surgery North Brink and from Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

She felt her mum was “neglected”, she added, as she believed her concerns regarding previous health complaints were not taken seriously.

However, spokesmen for both organisations refuted the claims.

Senior coroner for Norfolk Jacqueline Lake said: “I am of the view that the statements deal with the concerns.”

She gave the medical cause of death as aspiration pneumonitis caused by pneumonia with the kidney transplant as a contributing factor.

Mrs Lake said: “Ms Neale is obviously very much missed.”
