Richard Blunt elected new leader of West Norfolk Council’s Conservative group
The Conservative group on West Norfolk Council has a new leader.
Cllr Richard Blunt has stepped up from deputy leader to take on the role, following former leader Cllr Brian Long standing down due to health reasons.
Cllr Long became leader in April 2024, three years after his previous stint in charge.
Following an official vote last night, Cllr Blunt told the Lynn News he is “delighted and honoured to be elected as leader of the Conservative group”.
“I would like to express my thanks on behalf of the group for the work and support of the previous leader Brian Long, whom I worked with for several years,” he said.
“I am also pleased to have appointed Cllr Sam Sandell as my deputy.”
When Cllr Long was elected last year, he and Cllr Blunt promised to hold the current Independent-led administration to account and “work with all elected to the council for the best outcomes for the residents and businesses of West Norfolk”.
Cllr Blunt represents the Walsoken, West Walton and Walpole ward.
