Construction plans lodged for Swaffham primary school ahead of name change

Plans have been drawn up to replace a garden area with extra parking spaces as part of wholesale changes at a Swaffham school.

The county council are the applicants for the proposals which could also see a replacement boundary fencing being put up at Swaffham Infant and Nursery School.

From September, the school will become known as Heartwood CE VC Primary School and will be welcoming more children to the site.

A recent newsletter sent out by the school states: "We are using the school’s partial closure to get things ready to make Heartwood Primary the best school it can be for your children.

"I am confident you will love the new look when the children return.

"We are excited to welcome more children to our school in September. Our reception cohort is full and we a couple of spaces in our Year 3 class."

The school told parents it was hopeful of construction starting in May.

No objections have been raised to the planning application by Highways or on the grounds of environmental protection.

There are currently 16 car parking spaces at the school, but the plans hope to increase that capacity as well as providing additional playground space for the children.

The agent, NPS Group, said that there would be no construction deliveries during peak periods when parents and pupils are accessing the White Cross Road site.

Warning signs would also be displayed on the roadside approaching the construction site.

The consultation period for the application closed yesterday (April 28).
