Town leaders hail consultation response on Downham Market's future
Community leaders in Downham have praised the response to a new initiative which aims to bring fresh investment in the town.
Borough and town council leaders joined forces earlier this year to launch the Opportunities Downham Market programme.
And an initial consultation exercise took place in May to gather ideas for how to improve the town and increase use of its town hall.
Now, the town council is looking to bring stakeholders in a new partnership group to help progress some of the ideas put forward.
Town Mayor Jenny Groom told a council meeting on Tuesday that the consultation process had proved “very successful” and a broader group could yield more significant results.
She said: “It’s brought up a lot of interesting ideas and one of the ways to attract funding and move some of those ideas forward is to look at the creation of a Town Partnership.
“Historically, where you have partners, more than just council, you get more access to more money.
“We’re looking to get a group of stakeholders together to look at how we can move this forward.
The meeting was told that a number of stakeholders had been identified as potential members of the group.
