King’s Lynn Windsor Road Coronation street party raises funds for three worthy charities
Funds have been raised from a street party in Lynn which will be donated to three charities.
To celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III members of the Windsor Road Street Party organised a community event with proceeds going to the 8:56 Foundation, Bridge for Heroes and the Big C Cancer Charity.
A cheque was presented by former borough mayor Lesley Bambridge to the amount of £3,400 with £1,000 going to each of the charities.
The remaining money will be used to train in the use of the community defibrillator.
The street party took place on Sunday, May 7 and entertainment continued into the evening at the Live and Let Live pub run by landlady Ros Woods.
Joanne Russell, organiser, Windsor Road Street Party said: “It was fantastic.
“On the day it couldn’t have been any better and loads of people came.
“One couple from Worksop booked a bed and breakfast especially to come to the party.
“Lesley has been fantastic and even though she is no longer mayor we wanted her to do the cheque presentation.
The three charities that benefit from the street party have a personal meaning to the organisers.
Mrs Russell said: “We raised for the 8:56 Foundation and I personally knew Lee Calton who sadly passed away.
“There is a massive need for men’s mental health in dire need of help.
“The 8:56 Foundation was incredible and had a stall on the day.
“Mark Howard does a lot for Bridge for Heroes and comes into the pub.
“We wanted to include the Big C Cancer Charity when we had news that the late Queen Elizabeth II had suffered in her later years of cancer and we also know a local woman who is having support for cancer.
The remaining money will be used to train in the use of the community defibrillator, which the community purchased from their Platinum Jubilee street party which is located at Merchants Terrace.
Mrs Russel said: “We have lost count of how many times it has been activated and the spare parts needed cost £100 each.
“We will be receiving training from Jane at the Heart to Heart charity on Sunday, August 6 so that people are confident in using it following a local person who collapsed and we had to fetch the defibrillator.”
“Also some of the funds can be used to pay the entertainment expenses we had on the day such as magician Josh Maddocks, facepainting and the singer.
“Adrian Flux Insurance Services sponsored the event along with others and we were able to give out 100 goody bags to the kids who all received a commemorative coin, a Coronation mug and pen.
“It is really important to commemorate these Royal events and Ros Woods does amazing things for the community.”
Lesley Bambridge said: “I had attended their fantastic street party during the Coronation weekend when I was mayor and was so pleased to attend the cheque presentation and party.
“They are a great bunch of people and supported three very worthy charities.”
